Need Help With Preventive Pest Control? RainCity Pest Control can help!
Preventive pest control is one of the best ways to stop the problem before it even happens. Whether or not you’ll experience a big problem in your home depends mostly on the environment. If your home is located in an area in which pests are otherwise present, with the climate (mostly humidity) that allows them to breed and flourish, paying attention to signs of trouble is a major responsibility. RainCity Pest Control recommends following a couple of important preventive instructions to secure your home.
Know Your Enemy
To protect your home from bugs, you need to learn about various species that could pose a risk. Are there termites living in the area? Or, perhaps, surrounding homes have a problem with roaches and bedbugs? Learning about bug population in your area will help you understand their life cycle and habits. You’ll know when to expect them to swarm and try to enter your home. You also need to know their reproductive habits as most bugs reproduce fairly fast, but knowing their nesting habits and times of the year they commonly reproduce will help you be prepared.
Secure the Exterior
Regardless of the type of species and the number of bugs threatening your home, good maintenance and some tidy daily habits should be enough to keep them away. Some of the basic preventive pest control strategies include:
Keeping the home and the exterior clean. Any organic matter left out in the open will draw bugs. Inside the house, always store foods, be it in your kitchen cupboards or in your pantry. Make sure to have all of your organic supplies sealed in plastic containers. Outside the home, clean up leftovers from snacks or dinner parties as soon as you’re finished with the meal. Don’t leave any types of food on your front porch or front yard. Be sure to clear out the exterior of boards, boxes, leftover building materials, and trash. A clear dry landscape free of food won’t be spreading smells that draw bugs and rodents.
Inspect & Maintain
Aside from daily efforts to clean and repel pests, proper maintenance will stop them from nesting near or in your home. Some of the high-risk areas include foundations, basement, attic, roof lining, spouts, and drains. Any cracks or decay in these areas will make it easier for bugs to get in. You should inspect the property for possible nests and damage at least once every season, but a monthly check-up is also a good idea. Check the exterior and foundations for cracks, and seal them as soon as you discover them. Look inside the basement regularly to dry out any water build-up and check for a possible bug presence. Inspect your attic, roof lining, and eavestroughs for rust, rot, or presence of any other damage. It is important to repair as soon as you discover it.
